APAWS (Animal Protection And Welfare Society) is an all-volunteer group based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana dedicated to ensuring that all pet animals in and around the Baton Rouge area live in homes which provide for all of the animal's physical and emotional needs - including daily maintenance, medical care and nurturing - for the animal's lifetime.
Some volunteers provide food, shelter and love in their homes to cats and dogs who have been injured, abandoned or thrown away. Others help by transporting the animals to veterinarian appointments, volunteering on Adoption Days, participating in fund raising activities, mailings, publicity efforts and public education.
APAWS has been an active participant in finding homes for the many pets left homeless by Hurricane Katrina.
Because we receive no external funding, we rely on fund-raising efforts and donations to fund our efforts. LEARN MORE >
The Wildlife Conservation Society saves wildlife and wild lands around the world through science, conservation, education, and the management of the world's largest system of urban wildlife parks, led by the flagship Bronx Zoo. Together, these activities inspire people to imagine wildlife and humans living together sustainably. WCS believes that this work is essential to the integrity of life on Earth.
